Georgetown is a small, lovely town of approximately 5,000, located in Sussex County, Delaware. It serves as the county seat and is part of the Seaford Micropolitan Statistical Area. Georgetown is often called "the historical jewel of Sussex County." It was established in 1791. and offers a walking tour of the town to showcase its fine old homes and unique architecture. Originally, the center of Georgetown was laid out around a circle that is one mile in diameter, rather than around the more traditional town square. This "Circle" is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Another interesting place to visit in Georgetown is the Nutter D. Marvel Museum. This museums contains a collection of historic buildings and horse drawn carriages, along with thousands of photographs, newspaper clippings, books and other memorabilia about the town. Georgetown is only fifteen miles to Sussex County's beautiful beaches, including Fowlers Beach, Slaughter Beach, Broadkill Beach and Primehook Beach. Recreational activities in the area include swimming, shelling, crabbing, hiking, fishing, boating, golf and bird watching. Other nearby places of interest include Cape Henlopen State Park, Delaware Seashore State Park, Fenwick Island State Park and historic Lewes and Cape May, New Jersey.

Southwestern Delaware has a four-season climate that is moderated by the Atlantic Ocean. It is classified as humid subtropical. The state is the second smallest in the U.S. - only 96 miles long and from 9 to 35 miles across, and most of it lies within the Atlantic Coastal Plain. However, in spite of being so small, there is some variation between the north and south regarding temperature and amount of snowfall received each year. Southwestern Delaware has a somewhat milder climate and longer growing season than northern Delaware. Summers are hot and humid and winters are relatively mild due to the mountains of Pennsylvania blocking the cold winds in winter. Precipitation is distributed fairly evenly throughout the state, although southwestern Delaware receives less than the southeastern portion of the state. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but especially in spring and summer. Tornadoes in the state of Delaware are below the national average and hurricanes rarely make a direct.
