Broadkill-Beach is a tranquil, unincorporated beach community located in Sussex County in the southern portion of the state. It is located on the Broadkill River and offers beach access to the Delaware Bay. The community is surrounded by the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, which was established in 1963 to preserve the coastal wetlands as a wintering and breeding habitat for migratory waterfowl. The refuge contains over 8,000 acres of fresh marsh, tidal marsh and open water in the Delaware Bay Estuary. Broadkill Beach is small, with the only business in town being a "mall" that sells bait & tackle, sandwiches, beach toys and souvenirs. However, the larger, busier Rehoboth Beach is only 20 minutes away. Broadkill Beach offers tons of outdoor recreation such as swimming, fishing, boating, hiking and golf and several campgrounds are located nearby. It's a prime area for bird watching and wildlife viewing, beachcombing and shell collecting, and simply walking on the peaceful beach. Broadkill Beach is one of five beaches on the Delaware Bay in Sussex County. The others include Lewes Beach, Fowlers Beach, Slaughter Beach and Primehook Beach. Other attractions near Broadkill Beach include Henlopen State Park and Broadkill Sound.

Central Delaware has a four-season climate that is classified as humid subtropical. Since almost all of the state is part of the Atlantic Coastal Plain, the effects of the ocean moderate the weather. The Atlantic Coastal Plain is flat and not very high, reaching no more than 80 feet above sea level. Summers are warm and sometimes humid, with July being the hottest month of the year. Winters are cold, but not frigid. In fact, the whole state of Delaware has relatively mild winters because the mountains of Pennsylvania protect it from cold northwest winds. Monthly average temperatures range from a high of 85.6 degrees in summer to a low of 23.2 degrees in winter. Precipitation is distributed fairly evenly throughout the state, although the north and southeast receive more precipitation than the central portion of the state. Thunderstorms are common in the summer months. Tornado activity in Central Delaware is less than the national average. Hurricanes rarely make direct his on the state, and plenty of warning is given for these types of storms.
