Long-Neck is a town of approximately 1,600 located in Sussex County and bordered by Rehoboth Bay and Indian River Bay. Situated along Route 24, Long Neck was very sparsely populated for most of the second half of the 20th century. Looking toward the Atlantic Ocean and the barrier island that is Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach, one can see Masseys Landing at the eastern tip of Long Neck. This was once one of the most isolated spots in Delaware, known only to sportsmen who came to hunt and fish or crab. With the building of better roads and bridges in the 1950s and 1960s, more people began discovering Long Neck. In the late 1990s, several permanent, year-round communities were built, including the neighborhood surrounding the golf course at Baywood Greens, and The Peninsula, which is being developed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. Long Neck is now seeing unprecedented growth and is a thriving part of Sussex County. The town has all the charm of a small waterside community, while offering the convenient amenities of a larger town, such as fine dining and family-style restaurants, convenience stores, specialty shops and other businesses. Activities in the area include boating and fishing, crabbing, sailing, swimming (either at the beach or a neighborhood pool,) tennis, golf, pontoon boating, hiking and birdwatching. Basketball and shuffleboard courts and other recreational activities are also available.

Southern Delaware's weather is greatly moderated by the Atlantic Ocean. The state is the second smallest in the U.S., only 96 miles long and 9 to 35 miles across. Most of it lies within the Atlantic Coastal Plain and the climate transitions between a humid subtropical climate and a continental climate. However, despite its small size, there are significant variations in temperature and amount of snowfall among the state's three counties. Sussex County, which includes the southeastern beach areas, has a somewhat milder climate and a longer growing season than the northern part of the state. Summers are warm with occasional thunderstorms and July is the hottest month of the year. Southeastern Delaware tends to have the highest temperatures and more precipitation than the center of the state, with an average precipitation of 46 inches. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, although August is usually the wettest month. The whole state has mild winters because the mountains of Pennsylvania protect it from cold northwest winds. January, on average, has the coldest temperatures.
