Bethany-Beach
is a small town of 943 residents located in Sussex County, Delaware. It is situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the inland bays in the southeastern corner of the county. Bethany Beach, along with the towns of Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, South Bethany and Fenwick Island, comprises Delawares most densely populated and fastest growing beach resort area. The community of Bethany Beach is known as one of the "Quiet Resorts" where miles of pristine beaches offer year round activities. Although tourism is a primary industry, there is a slower pace of life here and large expanses of undeveloped areas that help keep it quiet. Also serving as a buffer is Delaware Seashore State Park, a six mile-long barrier island, which lies immediately north of the town. A large unincorporated area of private homes and condominiums lies between the State Park and the town. Bethany Beach is home to a short boardwalk and bandstand where musical acts appear from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A wide, sandy beach offers relaxation, swimming, surfing and beachcombing. Bethany Beach is also home to an annual Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival, usually held in early September and a Farmers Market on weekends June, July and August. The town celebrates the 4th of July with a parade, horseshoes and pie eating contests and a fireworks display at dusk. You will find very little commercialism in Bethany Beth.

Southern Delaware's weather is greatly moderated by the Atlantic Ocean. The state is the second smallest in the U.S., only 96 miles long and 9 to 35 miles across. Most of it lies within the Atlantic Coastal Plain and the climate transitions between a humid subtropical climate and a continental climate. However, despite its small size, there are significant variations in temperature and amount of snowfall among the state's three counties. Sussex County, which includes the southeastern beach areas, has a somewhat milder climate and a longer growing season than the northern part of the state. Summers are warm with occasional thunderstorms and July is the hottest month of the year. Southeastern Delaware tends to have the highest temperatures and more precipitation than the center of the state, with an average precipitation of 46 inches. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, although August is usually the wettest month. The whole state has mild winters because the mountains of Pennsylvania protect it from cold northwest winds. January, on average, has the coldest temperatures.
