Ocean-View
is a town in Sussex County, located one mile from the Atlantic Ocean and one mile from the Indian River Bay. It is surrounded by the Assawoman Canal and Whites Creek and is considered a bedroom community for the nearby resort town of Bethany Beach. The community that is now Ocean View began in 1688 as a 500-acre tract of land given to Matthew Scarborough by Lord Baltimore. There is a legend that says a young man climbed a tree and could see all the way to the Atlantic Ocean, hence, the name Ocean View. The town was incorporated in 1899 and today Ocean View has a full time population of 1,006 residents. That figure is expected to more than double in the near future with the annexation of a new golf course development, which has more than 700 homes on the southwest side of the community. Attractions near Ocean View include Delaware Seashore State Park, Cape Henlopen State Park and the historic towns of Lewes, Delaware and Cape May, New Jersey. Outdoor activities abound, including swimming, beachcombing, clamming and fishing, boating, surfing, canoeing, hiking, golf and more. Neighboring Bethany Beach is home to a beach boardwalk and bandstand with musical acts from Memorial Day to Labor Day. They also host a summer Farmers Market and an annual Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival in early September.

Southern Delaware's weather is greatly moderated by the Atlantic Ocean. The state is the second smallest in the U.S., only 96 miles long and 9 to 35 miles across. Most of it lies within the Atlantic Coastal Plain and the climate transitions between a humid subtropical climate and a continental climate. However, despite its small size, there are significant variations in temperature and amount of snowfall among the state's three counties. Sussex County, which includes the southeastern beach areas, has a somewhat milder climate and a longer growing season than the northern part of the state. Summers are warm with occasional thunderstorms and July is the hottest month of the year. Southeastern Delaware tends to have the highest temperatures and more precipitation than the center of the state, with an average precipitation of 46 inches. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, although August is usually the wettest month. The whole state has mild winters because the mountains of Pennsylvania protect it from cold northwest winds. January, on average, has the coldest temperatures.
