Harrington is a city located in Kent County in central Delaware. The town has a population of approximately 3,200 people and is part of the Dover Metropolitan Statistical Area. Harrington is host to the annual Delaware State Fair each July. The Harrington Raceway and Midway Slots is also located at the fairgrounds in Harrington. With its location in Kent County, the town of Harrington has lots to offer visitors, including an array of historical and recreational activities. There is a mix of pastoral farmland and coastal scenery and a mix of old traditions and modern high-tech culture. In Kent County, you'll find Amish horse-drawn carriages, museums, Colonial history, beautiful parks and of course, Delaware's tax-free shopping. Harrington is just a short drive to Delaware's capital city - Dover. Central Delaware has a four-season climate that is classified as humid subtropical. Since almost all of the state is part of the Atlantic Coastal Plain, the effects of the ocean moderate the weather. The Atlantic Coastal Plain is flat and not very high, reaching no more than 80 feet above sea level. Summers are warm and sometimes humid, with July being the hottest month of the year. Winters are cold, but not frigid. In fact, the whole state of Delaware has relatively mild winters because the mountains of Pennsylvania protect it from cold northwest winds. Monthly average temperatures range from a high of 85.6 degrees in summer to a low of 23.2 degrees in winter. Precipitation is distributed fairly evenly throughout the state, although the north and southeast receive more precipitation than the central portion of the state. Thunderstorms are common in the summer months. Tornado activity in Central Delaware is less than the national average. Hurricanes rarely make direct his on the state, and plenty of warning is given for these types of storms.
