Felton
is a small, peaceful town located in Kent County, Delaware in the central portion of the state. It is considered part of the Dover metropolitan area and has a population of about 800 residents. As part of Kent County, the Felton area offers lots of attractions, including Colonial history sites, antiques shopping, festivals and art fairs, museums, harness racing and NASCAR racing. Just minutes from Felton is the capital city of Dover, home to the historic town square or "Green," which was the site of many patriotic rallies during the American Revolution. The town of Felton is also near Lake Como, which has something for everyone. Open on summer weekends, Lake Como has a beach/swimming area with lifeguards on duty, fishing, picnicking, a paddle boat and a children's playground. A boat ramp is also available. However, no outboard motor boats in excess of 17 feet or 10 horsepower are allowed. The town of Felton is approximately 90 miles south of Philadelphia and 90 miles east of Washington, D.C.

Central Delaware has a four-season climate that is classified as humid subtropical. Since almost all of the state is part of the Atlantic Coastal Plain, the effects of the ocean moderate the weather. The Atlantic Coastal Plain is flat and not very high, reaching no more than 80 feet above sea level. Summers are warm and sometimes humid, with July being the hottest month of the year. Winters are cold, but not frigid. In fact, the whole state of Delaware has relatively mild winters because the mountains of Pennsylvania protect it from cold northwest winds. Monthly average temperatures range from a high of 85.6 degrees in summer to a low of 23.2 degrees in winter. Precipitation is distributed fairly evenly throughout the state, although the north and southeast receive more precipitation than the central portion of the state. Thunderstorms are common in the summer months. Tornado activity in Central Delaware is less than the national average. Hurricanes rarely make direct his on the state, and plenty of warning is given for these types of storms.
